This is a chance for people to help improve the state of the seas around Kintyre and not just simply turn a blind eye to, what is becoming, an environmental crisis. Research has proved that the vast majority of fish we consume contains micro-plastics. Our beaches are awash with rubbish, and the marine ecosystems are collapsing. Because we can't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't matter.
By getting people involved in our projects and by giving schools and communities in Kintyre access to information about the marine environment, we hope we can turn the tide. We have partnered with the educational centre run by the Community of Arran Seabed Trust (COAST) to help provide scientific information.
Our Plan
Stage One
Through consultation and seeking advice, decide how the KCN can best explain and clarify its aims and associated projects, as well as increasing and improving the awareness and knowledge of the issues that drive the KCN.
Stage Two
Establish contacts, venues and material, along with a timeframe of events, conducted largely by KCN volunteers but also bolstered by experts from fellow charities and initiatives. Plan and commission material to be used at events or placed online.
Stage Three
Create any necessary material. Publish and promote events, as appropriate, and carry out a programme of outreach activities. Adapt the programme according to feedback and advice.
Stage Four
Review the efficacy of our outreach, general and specific and plan future programmes accordingly. Seek feedback on how the KCN can improve the work it does in this area.
